They are Volvo's modular four-cylinder family, which replaced the older five-cylinder units across the range. They are fully covered here.
Why so little maintenance work on this model?
Being a recent model, these cars have accumulated fewer of the exhaust system issues that affect older diesels. The interest is almost entirely performance.
Is a remap worthwhile on a large estate?
Yes, particularly if used loaded. The extra mid-range torque is most noticeable with a full car or on gradients.
