It gains considerable mid-range flexibility, which is exactly what a heavy SUV needs when towing or fully loaded.
Does it affect off-road use?

Why are there so many EGR files?
The EGR is a known point of carbon build-up on these engines. Disabling it is not permitted on vehicles used on public roads, however.
